Member of the NUTM Global Advisory Board and NSP Visiting Faculty, Professor Wole Soboyejo has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE).
The NAE is an independent institution with a mission "to advance the wellbeing of the United States of America by promoting a vibrant engineering profession and by marshalling the expertise and insights of eminent engineers to provide independent advice to the US government on matters involving engineering and technology".
NAE membership is one of the highest professional distinctions conferred upon an engineer. It honors outstanding contributors to engineering research, practice, education, or literature and to "the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education."
Professor Soboyejo was honored for his work in two of those categories: his contributions to understanding dynamic behavior of materials, and his remarkable leadership in STEM outreach in Africa.
He teaches the Science and Technology for African Development course at the NSP. Through his course, Scholars explore an integrated perspective of the role that science and technology can play in development of sustainable solutions for rural and urban Africa.
Professor Soboyejo is also the Senior Vice President and Provost of the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and a former Professor at Princeton University.
